Roulette

Roulette is one of the most recognizable and popular games that you will find on a casino floor. One of the main contributing factors to this popularity surely is the fact that roulette is a very easy game to learn and play. There's very little secondary knowledge necessary to play the game well. Your main opponent is luck so the skill of the others at the table and strategy are virtually inconsequential.

The roulette table consists of a wheel and a grid of numbers with betting areas. The numbers range from 1 to 36. These numbers are arranged into 3 long columns with 3 numbers in each row across the columns. The numbers make their way numerically across the board and down the columns with each space alternating colors between red and black. Number 2 for example, would be between numbers 1 and 3 and above 5.

There are several different choices of where a player can place a bet. They can bet several variations of entire rows or columns, colors or sections and each with their own odds and individual payouts. Players can also bet individual numbers for the greatest payouts of the table.

As bets are placed, the dealer spins a wheel with all the numbers and corresponding colors assigned to separate slots. Next he drops a ball that circles around the outside rim of the spinning wheel with the ball rolling past all the different possible destinations on the game board. As the momentum starts to subside, the dealer waves off further betting and the ball finally comes to rest in one of the slots determining the winning bets for that round.

The majority of the game is completely luck based, but there are several different strategic schools of thought for hedging your bets and attacking the odds with systems of logic. Any player however would gladly trade sound logic and the right mathematical play on the board for a lucky bounce and a big payout.

Though roulette lacks the amount of control one may feel at the blackjack table or the amount of strategy and skill that some may apply to poker, there is no shortage of fun and excitement around a roulette wheel. Once that ball hits the wheel and the final bets are placed just inside the cutoff, the atmosphere around the table quiets and prepares for eruption. The eruption doesn't always take place, but the potential is always there on every spin of the wheel, for a big payday.
